Stained Glass.. An Uncommon Pane
by Cate Murway

Color your world! Do it yourself! Be creative. Experiment and have fun.
The sunlight that enters your home every day has traveled 93,000,000 miles to get there.
Make it glad it came!

Once used only as elaborate embellishments for royalty and places of worship, consider adding stained glass to your windows or other home features for a unique look. It is the perfect addition of art and drama to any décor, contemporary, traditional, country casual and urban chic decorating themes. Incorporating these colorful, elegant windows into your home can add privacy and enhance an air of grace and pristine class in your home, giving it lasting beauty and a unique identity, while letting lots of light shine through.

Feng-Shui [pronounced “fung schway”] is the ancient Chinese art of arranging space and color to achieve a harmonious environment. So whether you are seeking a bold statement with bright colors, or a soft serene atmosphere, or an old-time, nostalgic feel, stained glass can give you all three, personalizing your home with dazzling colors and unique designs.

A beautiful stained glass window panel, transom, sidelight or door helps people remember your home and during the course of the day as the natural sunlight moves through the sky, the appearance of the glass will change.  There is a mystery to glass. It is a form of matter with gas, liquid and solid-state properties, not stained as with fabric or wood. It is permanently colored using metal oxides [cobalt, copper, selenium, gold, etc.] while in a powdered state, heated until molten and turned into sheets, ranging from transparent to translucent to opaque. Gold produces stunning cranberry and ruby reds, cobalt makes blue, silver creates yellow and gold, and copper produces greens and brick reds.

Stained glass, as an art and a craft, requires the artistic skill to conceive an appropriate and workable aesthetically pleasing design, and the engineering skills to assemble the piece. Lift the shroud of mystery and take a class at Rainbow Stained Glass. Break into the exciting and challenging stained glass crafting! It’s a hobby for a lifetime and the glass artist is limited only by his or her imagination.
Whatever your style, whatever your personality, you can create your own window into your future.

Integrating a one-of-a-kind piece into your décor has never been easier and you can be as conservative or lavish as you wish and the results will always be lovely.
Hint- stained glass windows make a sophisticated gift because they are beautiful, elegant, nostalgic, rich, unique, classy, inspirational, and/or impressive.

Where do you put it once you have made it? There are many options to create a stunning art dynamic within the spaces of your home or business, bestowing individuality, character and beauty. Imagine your company logo or corporate logo spanning [or hanging within] a prominent window, or mounted on a wall in the entryway of your office. Doors, windows, panels, eye-catching signage of all types, unique and functional art pieces, dividers and even tables provide vast opportunities to showcase the timeless charm and appeal of decorative art glass. Add pieces to coffee tables or small window insertions of stained glass panels into cupboard doors to add warmth and a distinct design element for a very appealing color and texture improvement to an otherwise typical array of cabinetry. An electric light source inside that cabinet will greatly increase the effect. Putting a "splashy" window or shower enclosure in your bathroom can be a great way to retain privacy, while also adding beauty and atmosphere. Privacy is an element of security, and stands as a benefit of all window treatments but art glass has an associated benefit that the others do not: light.  Personalize corners, nooks and crannies with a kaleidoscope of colors and textures using accent pieces or decoration. Vibrant colors add ambiance and an element of craftsmanship.
A fireplace screen covers that black hole with a free-standing screen of stained glass art. Set a light behind it, or come fall and cooler weather, allow the inviting flickering of the fireplace flames behind the glass to be seen.
