Summer Art Camp in Bristol…..A Pretty Picture!
by Cate Murway

“I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we too, will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit.”
John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy [1917 – 1963]

These words of our 35th President of the USA still resonate so strongly.
Arts education contributes to the enhancement of that spirit AND creativity and imagination translate to U.S. production. The transformative nature of arts education for students is significant and in fact, extensive participation in arts activities was a noteworthy predictor of academic achievement and community involvement.

Fortunately, Penelope Fox Art Studio is hosting a Summer Art Camp for young artists ages 7 through 11.
The Summer Art Camp Series runs for seven full weeks this summer, with 5 mornings of exceptional art from 10:00AM- noon with a professional art teacher each week. Classes begin the week of July 1st and end the week of August 12th with a small class size [only 10 children each weekly session], so each student gets plenty of one-on-one time with his/her teacher.

Creativity is key!
Engaging young artists…… one project at a time, with a list to fit all levels of artistic ability.
Each week offers a new and exciting different theme to present the students with an opportunity to really dive deep into the diverse styles of art while exploring ways to use a variety of tools and experiment with different mediums. Students will work in the Studio with sculpture, paints such as acrylic and watercolor, collage, and a variety of random objects to upcycle. Supplies include the tools and knowledge needed for each budding artist to create his/her own masterpiece, and of course, included is an apron!

The hands-on approach of the skilled educators will help each to improve and truly have fun.
Each 2-hour class will engage and inspire the budding artists as each effectively learns art with age-appropriate techniques, fostering each child’s innovative spirit while developing and showcasing his/her talents.
Jina Dierolf IS Penelope Fox Art! Penelope Fox Art originally opened in 2009 as just a personal art studio. Jina registered as LLC and started classes in 2013, winning Best of Bucks 2016 & 2017 and was a finalist in the Bucks Happening for 'Kids Parties'. May 9th was the anniversary of Jina’s first class.

Now she and the “Positively Poppin’” 3rd grade Snyder- Girotti Elementary School teacher, Jeanette Nicole [Bersani] Frey are providing a Summer Art Camp that will help stimulate and develop the young student’s imagination and critical thinking, as well as refining their cognitive and creative skills.
Jeanette is the professional Art teacher and she was formerly the Director of the private, high quality “Little People Day Care- Preschool”. She attended St. Mark School in the Borough and earned her Elementary Education degree from Temple University, and her Masters in Creative Education from Gratz College. Her two sons, Jacob “Jake” [17] and Alex [15] attend Bristol High.

Growth mindset sets the trend. The budding artists will be adeptly encouraged to “embrace their mistakes”; skillfully guided to getting over the hump of not being quite good at something.
"I show them how to turn mistakes into something else. There really are no mistakes in art. I just encourage them to work on another piece, then come back and see it another way and make their mistake into something pretty. I hope they can see that in their life. I want to encourage them.”
Jina and Jeanette are big fans of kids' artwork, encouraging their creativity, passion, curiosity and their willingness to try. Perfect for summer learning…. integrating information through play!

The Penelope Fox Art Studio Summer Art Camp is way more than just art.
Boredom, you're officially BUSTED.
It involves some super cool and unique, engaging science activities, sculpture, and learning about artists from around the world. Camp days are as much fun as they are educational. The projects take several days to dry and set and each student will have the chance to create a finished piece of art to take home. Happiness is homemade!
“There is an energy and excitement dealing with kids!”
So many children are not sufficiently exposed to Art so Penelope Fox Studio Summer Art Camp is expertly prepared to present these week-long programs that will challenge, inspire, and excite.
Students can attend 1 week ….. OR choose to attend ALL of them!

★Week 1 | Starts July 1 | Sculpture Art
Dates: July 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

“Sculpture Art” encourages much “thinking outside the box” and nurtures creativity. Students will fashion sculptures using many different fun materials from salt in a mold, to cardboard, to cork, and much more.
**This week will be excellent for students that love to work with their hands and build things.

★Week 2 | Starts July 8 | Surrealism
Dates: July 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

“Surrealism” involves watercolor, acrylic paint, and collage. Students will also learn a bit about Salvador [Domingo Felipe Jacinto] Dalí [1904-1989], a prominent Spanish surrealist born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. Dali is best known for striking and attention-grabbing images in his surrealist work.
One of his most famous works, The Persistence of Memory, introduced a surrealistic image of soft, melting pocket watches.

 ★Week 3 | Starts July 15 | Upcycle Art
Dates: July 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th.

This popular form of upcycling involves creating art with items of ‘waste’, proving that the results can be quite spectacular. Actually, anything can be turned into art if you have an open mind.

Dates: July 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th 26th

“Art & Science” takes art projects to a scientific level, combining the creativity of an art project with a classic science experiment! These projects are guaranteed to pop and fizz and suds, as they are created from baking soda and vinegar, or even paint in egg shells.

 ★Week 5 | Starts July 29 | Exploration
Dates: July 29th, 30th, 31st, August 1st, 2nd

“Exploration” involves Space, and Sea & Sand and galaxies, taking the Art camper below the sea and up to space. Projects will be focused on their observations using canvas, painting, and an assemblage of different forms using collage mediums.

★Week 6 | Starts August 5 | See the World
Dates: August 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th

“See the World” will introduce the budding artists to artists from another country or time, learning about them and the techniques that they used. They will celebrate the world of art and some of the artists from around the world who made masterpieces from blank canvases. Acrylic paint, pencil, markers, paper, and canvas will be used.

★Week 7 | Starts August 12 | Print & Pop Art
Dates: August 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th

“Print & Pop Art” will be “lots of colors and F-U-N”. This week is for the pattern maker! The young artists will learn about different printing styles and the visual art movement , the Pop Art era of art history, learning just what pop art is and about Andy Warhol [1928-1987] * born Andrew Warhola, from Pittsburgh, PA. Students will be using acrylic paint, ink, paper, and canvas.
