Memorial Day 2022
by Cate Murway

“And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.”
*God Bless the U.S.A. lyrics by Lee Greenwood

America…. there is a potent shine in your eyes that depicts hope.

Let's remember those who have served, those who currently serve, and all who will in the future volunteer to serve our great nation in defense of our freedom!
Especially, let's be thankful and keep in mind those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for an often ungrateful and forgetful people!
Across the country and around the world, U.S. war, military and veteran memorials stand to honor those who served in uniform in devastating battles to protect our nation's freedoms.

“POOR IS THE NATION THAT HAS NO HEROES.
SHAMEFUL IS THE NATION THAT HAVING THEM FORGETS.”

In 1868, on May 5th, Memorial Day, originally called “Decoration Day,” was officially proclaimed by General John Alexander Logan [1826-1886], national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Memorial Day ceremonies will be presented throughout the borough, and each location includes a gun salute, prayers, and the sounding of taps. Chaplain Albert Mancuso provides the invocation.
