Maugeri’s Magic Menu
by Cate Murway

Bakeries are very popular places; places of early mornings, long hours of hard work, delicious products and customers who love them and… they smell great. They are brimming with wonderful things to eat, from crusty breads to gooey and sweet treats and they often become neighborhood meeting places, where the bakers work hard and people leave with good feelings as well as their freshly baked goods.
The Maugeri Cupcake Company in Bailey’s Plaza on Bristol-Emilie Road is a sweet sanctuary!
So, get ready for some serious carb-loading the next time you hit the road. Many of the best bakeries are secreted away, near small towns off the main drag, nestled in a blip in the burbs.

Catch the intoxicating scent of the Maugeri Cupcake Company with their plate-glass windows in front – the better to see the tempting cakes and other confections – and a fresh splash of a new color scheme of confection pink. “The kitchen is open so people can see everything!” This warm and welcoming corner bakery brims with freshly baked delights. Watch while they perform the Maugeri magic.
Co-owners, mother-daughter chefs Elizabeth Jean “Beth” Maugeri and Gina Marie Maugeri create and decorate a variety of many baked goods, while the front of their shoppe attracts a regular morning crowd and a rather busy lunchtime clientele. Wedding cakes, any specialty cake and birthday cakes can be custom ordered but “we do have cupcakes for walk-in customers.” Their cakes are all handmade and can be customized with the flavor, filling and decorations of your choice. A fun dessert option is a creative cupcake pull-apart cake. Scrumptious cupcakes, topped with yummy icing. What a way to make any celebration that much more mystical! Honor our beloved veterans this Memorial Day with their exclusive cupcake wreath. The Maugeri family is prepared to remain flexible and nimble.

Their “batter up” team includes apprentice, Summer Feliciano, a culinary student at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia.
This baking team wants to help you indulge. They take pride in product excellence and they aim to be positive, upbeat and magnetic ….. all of the time! They are the face of their bakery and they intend to lead by example in every way. Beth and Gina use only fresh ingredients in a real kitchen, establishing their niche in the neighborhood. “Everything tastes so much better when it’s made from scratch.”
Everything is always baked the day of delivery from all natural ingredients; you can taste the difference.

This is the very first shoppe for the Bristol Township residents.
Beth is from Brooklyn, NY. She earned a scholarship to nursing school but realized that vocation was not quite for her. Her entrepreneurship isn’t new since she ran a call center support business for online businesses but “I’ve always baked. My favorite thing to bake is sticky buns.”
Their full service, take-out bakery is “starting with mainly just cupcakes because it was a simpler way to start”. They are passionate about running a small biz and making their customers happy.

Her story is one of resolve in the face of the challenges she's faced in both her business pursuit as well as her personal life. The growing of her cupcake business is a family endeavor. If its success depended only on the variety and quality of her tasty products, her financial independence would be assured,” confirmed a friend, Wayne Walker.

Whether you’re in the mood for sweets or savories, Maugeri Cupcake Company aims to please with their indulgent caramel-rich sticky buns to their fragrant pepperoni bread. Their cupcake assortment includes divinely decadent flavors like banana split, almond coconut, carrot cake, red velvet, caramel apple and rich chocolate. “Love the chocolate”!

Order one of their pound cakes, vanilla cakes or apple, peach, lemon meringue or key lime pies and
if you’re ready for a very powerful treat, order one of their dark chocolate espresso pumpkin breads.
Their selection of fresh-baked daily, gourmet bagels from Bagel Board in Croydon [they make our own bagel dough] are perfect with a just brewed, great cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
Even if you’re not in the mood for a bite to eat, you might change your mind after smelling the bakery’s fresh aromas and feeling the warmth from their ovens that work all day long. It’ll probably be quite difficult to choose just a few things to have with your tea.
Beth and Gina will stock some already pre-made cakes in the bakery should you need a cake last minute. Give them a call ahead of time if possible, to see what they have made and stop on by to pick it up.

The very first customer in their new shoppe was Brad Atkins. He came in to claim the pink and purple custom birthday cake for his fifteen year old daughter, Faith Marie. He left with a smile.

Maugeri Cupcake Company in Levittown supplied the birthday cake for Anita Hill, who was in Philadelphia this past weekend attending a medical conference.

The presentation to Hill, who initially became a household name during the controversy surrounding Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ confirmation last century, was scheduled for her birthday to be present at the 115th Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly put on by the National Medical Association in Philadelphia.

Beth Maugeri and her daughter, Gina, were selected to supply the cake by event organizers due to their policy of using all natural ingredients.
The multi-layered cake is the biggest the mom and daughter team have made yet. Able to feed 100 people, the cake was vanilla with chocolate frosting and displayed 61-year-old Hill’s sorority. In total, the cake took about 16 hours of work to bring to life, Maugeri said.

The cake had a special significance for Beth Maugeri. She said she has been aware of Hill since the 1991 confirmation hearings of Thomas. Making Hill’s birthday cake was a big deal for the baker.
“It was really an honor to make this cake for Anita,” Beth Maugeri said.

Hill, an attorney and academic, was the keynote speaker at the Council on Concerns of Women Physicians Annual Muirel Petioni, M.D. Awards Program at the convention, which took place in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The responsibility to make and decorate the cake fell to Beth said, as Gina said gave birth the week before the convention was set to take place.
According to Beth Maugeri, the organizers who ordered the cake were thrilled with the way the cake turned out.
The duo has had the order for two months, making sure they had the time and resources to prepare for the large order.

Maugeri Cupcakes opened in March of 2017. The full service bakery is located at 6906 Bristol Emilie Road, which is better known as Bailey’s Plaza near Five Points.
Maugeri Cupcake Company is also hosting a school supplies collection box in the store.
