by Cate Murway

Welcome to historic Bristol on the Delaware, Sergio Cargitlado and Angela Aversano, co-owner bakers with a passion for pastries and creativity. Their charming Angelina's Bake Shop with the intoxicating scent is a sweet sanctuary on the RISE on friendly Mill Street.
They are skillfully blending their warm hospitality and lovingly-made goods of their small-town bakery with their own happening vibe and sophistication. They are on the quest to be the best!

“Our doors are open! We’re so happy to be here and open for business in Historic Bristol Borough.”

Angelina’s boasts a full bake shop that pushes the boundaries of delicious with their packed full of the best quality premium traditional, old world goodness ingredients, and the baking is done right on the premises. Their always just baked distinctly delicious delights include a host of the finest fresh divine doughnuts, scrumptious pastries and tempting cupcakes topped with yummy icing, cheese cakes, a selection of vegan products, wedding cakes, mouth-watering pies, decadent signature chocolate and specialty vanilla cakes, and the very best different types of bread, including Italian and rye breads.

They are making it quite difficult to choose just a few things to have with your coffee or tea.
Your satisfaction will make them feel very proud.

It gets crowded, but that's how you know their stuff is good.
It’s so nice to have a "real" bakery in the hood.

“Bought some donuts there this morning. Delicious!!! Most jelly I've ever seen in a donut.”
Rich Hendricks
“Congratulations again!! Your bakery is so beautiful and the delicious donuts and danish are the best! Stopping in soon again!!” Carlos & Linda Olmo

The Borough had housed many bakeries some time ago. Thomas McLees operated his store on Wood Street and then on Mill. Bristol was dotted with independent family run businesses and the elite of the town were the merchants. Over the years, there had been Accardi’s Bakery on Mill Street, Hillborn, Blackwood, Bennett, Boekel, Irwin, Powell, Friendship Goodie Shoppe on Mill, Nazarino “Cookie” Mari’s Italian Bread on Garden Street, Ward and Lanza Bakeries on Dorrance, Mancuso, Kay’s Bakery on Bath Street, Walker’s, and the Ideal Bake Shoppe and Model’s Bakery on Pond.
John D. and Dorothy L. Micozzi’s Bakery, Inc. on Farragut Avenue had been the very last of this century.
Historic Bristol on the Delaware was currently under-served by bakeries and coffee shops.

Sergio and Angela weren’t always bakers, mixing batter and kneading dough.
Sergio has always been involved in residential and business painting, having started as a youth, working for his father in his apartment complexes.
Angela comes from a big family who enjoyed “music and dancing and eating”. Her brother, Francisco “Cisco” and his wife Nikki own the very successful Brass Rail Beverage and Deli near Hershey, PA.
The two of them met disco dancing. “We love to dance!”
So “doing the hustle” has apparently always been a part of their combined nature.
They already owned two businesses together, Angela’s Contractors, Inc. since 2005, and a mold remediation business, Angela’s Environmental Contractors since 2011; but they were ready for another venture.
They heard news about Bristol’s revitalization when the Deluxe Corporation announced that the Borough was the winner of season two of the “Small Business Revolution – Main Street”.

They both wanted another business, but Sergio wanted a bakery.
He had owned and operated a cleaning service and there had been a bakery next to one of his clients, an insurance agency. Sergio had befriended the son of the Hatfield bakery owner who first taught him to make donuts and twist pretzels. He was hooked.

Sergio began his search for a business setting for his “Angel”, the name he has dubbed Angela.
The Mill Street building called out to him as the ideal location to open a bakery. He saw an opportunity in the century-old building on 312 Mill Street. It had character.

L.C. Wettling, Jeweler and Optometrist [proprietor, the late Lewis C., wife, Adelia P.], and JR Sport Center [proprietors, the late John [Junior] and Mary Lou Field] were former businesses located at the 312 Mill Street location.

Sergio and Angela keep in contact with the former owner, Mary Lou. “Mary Lou is a sweetheart!”

Bakeries are very popular places; places of early mornings, long hours and hard work, delicious products and customers who love them, and… they smell great. They are brimming with wonderful things to eat, from crusty breads to gooey and sweet treats, and they often become neighborhood meeting places, where the bakers work hard and people leave with good feelings along with their freshly baked goods.
Be forewarned: every single Angelina dessert is painfully good and highly addictive with a creative flair!
Fact! Their fine collection of bakery selections will win the hearts of pretty much everyone with functioning taste buds.

Enjoy a special savor…..Enroll in the Angelina's Bake Shop Community.
Sergio and Angela and their team want to recognize their customers by name, so all are invited to join their ‘bakery bunch’. Share your e-mail and your birth date at the register and you’ll receive irresistibly delicious special offers, sneak peeks and the latest news from Angelina's Bake Shop.

Angelina’s Bake Shop opened its doors last Saturday, October 6th and has been quickly embraced by all.
Pink, black, and white are Angela’s favorite colors. The pristine, brightly colored bakery with grey and pink accents and amazingly inviting, comfortable pink and white striped chairs beckon all who enter.
A most timely gift commands the brick wall, a clock generously donated by the Mignoni family of the neighboring Mignoni’s Jewelry & Gifts. Bird of Paradise Flowers in vases gracing each table in the dining room complete the ambiance with sheer perfection.

Their future plans are to open Angelina’s Bake Shop at 5:00AM and remain open until 8:00PM, serving breakfast all day, along with their lunch and dinner menu items, coffee and tea and espresso and cappuccino selections. EGGSactly what customers love…..outstanding breakfasts ALL day.

Customer satisfaction and showing their appreciation is vitally important to Sergio and Angela. They are avidly working on an Angelina’s Rewards Program and a special Angelina’s VIP Program.
Their bakery space will always be most community friendly. “We’ll be offering an ‘after store hours’ event room for showers, birthday parties, tea parties, after prom get-togethers and cake decorating parties. God has blessed us. He has been very good to us. We are very thankful and we like to share.”

So, get ready for some serious carb-loading the next time you hit the road. The best bakeries are secreted away, in small towns off the main drags, and the best one is nestled right here in historic Bristol Borough. More than worth a detour!
These bakers are set to play a huge role…. Or should it be ROLL?
There is a cheerful spirit in Angelina’s front room, a casual place that takes food very, very seriously.

Come in, relax and be greeted each time by the compelling smell of homemade delectable baked goods wafting out the front door, and warm smiles from behind the counter filled with cookies, pies and tarts.
Sit a spell for coffee and conversation. “Feel comfortable. We want Angelina’s to be your second home.”
Enjoy their warm hospitality in a really homespun, middle-America, old-fashioned caring kind of vibe that is also just straight-up cool.
And yes……you’ll be welcomed with a smile; ALWAYS with a smile.

To our valued and loyal patrons,
It is with great sadness that we bid you a farewell, as we have made the difficult decision to
close our doors Sunday March 13, 2022 until further notice.
The economic impact of COVId-19 we have faced over these last two years, has left Angelina’s to come to this decision.
—Please know this decision was not taken lightly, as we have prided ourselves in being a bright spot in our community.
Thank you, to our patrons and neighbors who have been the most supportive community Angelina’s Bake Shop could have ever hoped for.
Please continue to support your local small businesses, stay sweet & look to our social media handles for any updates we may have.
We thank you, we love you.
